Seeking Wisdom

At this point in the season of Ordinary Time in the Revised Common Lectionary, we find ourselves turning to the wisdom books. We lean into Proverbs, Job and Esther to glean what we can from the stories that have been passed down and retold over and over again.

In one of these stories, Wisdom is a woman calling into the streets. She wants us to pay attention to her gifts and is frustrated that we just won’t listen. I love this image and want her to command all of my attention. But I know that I’ve ignored her too and so I love to hear this story in Proverbs again.

We believe that wisdom will come. We convince ourselves that it will come when we get older and have more experience. I am wondering in this season if wisdom might just happen as the poet suggests below.

Where do you find the tumbling wake of wisdom happening around you right now?
